Introduction
Challenge yourself (and everyone you know!) to read more this summer. The Lee County Public Library is hosting a Summer Reading Challenge open to all ages. Bonus! This year we’re rolling out our brand-new Beanstack app for more fun and an easier, game-like experience.
Benefits of Participating
Aside from just being ridiculously fun, reading in the summer months also helps combat the dreaded “summer slide,” the summer learning loss that occurs when children and teens do not engage in any educational experience during the summer months and backslide in their progress from the previous school. year. Summer reading is also a great way to discover new books that you might not have the time to explore during the school year. The Summer Reading Challenge isn’t just for kids, we have separate challenges for teens and adults too! All ages are encouraged and welcome to play along, read some great books, and win some fun prizes.
How to Participate
Signing up for the Summer Reading Challenge is easy! The easiest (and most fun!!) way is by signing up through Beanstack either by downloading the Beanstack Tracker app to your device OR by visiting our official Beanstack page to create an account and join in the fun! You’ll earn badges as you go and have the ability to connect with your friends (by sharing a unique friend code) and challenge them too!
Readers 0 to 5 are challenged to read/have 20 books read to them by the end of summer and readers 6 and up are challenged to read a total of 10 hours!
- To Join via the website: visit our official Beanstack page, click “Create an account – Register an Individual or Family,” and follow the prompts. You will create a profile under your name and then you may add readers (including yourself!) to your household. For every reader you must Register for the Summer Reading Challenge that applies to the reader’s age. Then you just make sure to log your reading (*ages 6 and older, make sure to log minutes and not just the book*)!

Read your own books, read a friend’s book, or borrow one of our books – just read. If you join us for any of our awesome Summer Reading events, you can checkout a few books when you leave. Join us for our children’s storytime on Wednesdays at 10am and you can count the books we read to you!

Prize Information
You’ve got to have prizes if you’re gonna have a challenge, right? For kids and teens, we have three milestone prizes built into the challenge (you’ll receive a notification when you’ve unlocked a prize!!) and a final bigger prize for completing the entire challenge. For adults, you receive a prize for completing the entire challenge and your name will be put into a drawing for an Amazon gift card.
To claim your prize, just visit the Lee County Library once you’ve completed the challenge. If you used Beanstack either online or on the app, just show up – we already have all your progress saved! If you used paper, just bring your completed log when you come to claim your prize(s)! You may collect the prizes as you go or all at once. All prizes must be picked up by August 16th, 2023.
Conclusion
So sign up, read all those books you’ve been meaning to get to, and join in the fun! Win badges, prizes, and just have a good time reading with us over the summer.
And while we have some fun prizes, the real reward here is all the reading you get to do this summer. Self care is important and time spent reading is NEVER a waste. Happy Reading, all!
