Summer Reading Kickoff at Lee State Park

Our first adventure was to Lee State Park with Ranger Laura Kirk for a scavenger hunt!  We began on the wetland boardwalk in search of all things nature.  From dragonflies to birds, there was no shortage of wildlife on our trek.  Our adventure continued to the pond where we were able to see aquatic life up close.  Children giggled and squealed with anticipation as Ranger Laura filled the containers with critters from both land and water.  Then, thanks to the artesian wells, we took some time to rehydrate and cool down from the heat.  After lunch, we ended our day roasting marshmallows over a fire.  Everyone had a good time, thanks to Ranger Laura.  She went above and beyond with the children and their parents to teach them about the exciting things to see right here at our very own Lee State Park. [...]  read more

News! Excitement! New partnerships! It is all good at the library this month. We are right in the middle of our sign up period for the 2017 Summer Reading Program. We are hoping for a record for this year’s program. The kick off will be June 9th at the Lee State Park at 10:00 AM At that time our friend, Ranger Laura Kirk, will conduct one of her famous field trips and then we will have lunch in the pavilion. Storyfest SC

May 14, 2017 – Storyfest SC


For the seventh year, we will be participating in the South Carolina State Library’s annual “Storyfest SC” the state-wide kick-off for the 2017 Summer Reading Program. This year they will be honoring two children’s book authors:

Rita Williams-Garcia is the New York Times bestselling author of novels for young readers including the multi-award winning One Crazy Summer series featuring the Gaither Sisters. She has been awarded the Newbery Honor, the Coretta Scott King Author Award for each book in the One Crazy Summer series, and has been twice-named a National Book Award Finalist. Ms. Williams-Garcia is living her life-long dream of training in the art of boxing at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, New York.
